Sheffield Jazz Workshops

Sheffield Jazz Workshop

Sheffield Jazz Workshop has been running with great success for more
than 25 years.

Jazz Workshops are run at King Edwards School, near the Hallamshire Hospital, and are run by several local jazz musicians including Pete Lyons, Chris Walker and Henrick Linnemann.
They are open for anyone to come along to whenever you like.
There are three or four groups every Saturday morning for people at different levels of experience in jazz improvisation.
There are often end of term concerts to give people a chance to experience performing material the workshop has been tackling.
Beginners - For people new to jazz and their instrument. Advanced - For people competent on their instrument and comfortable with the theory and the practical application of improvising in a jazz style.
Intermediate - For people with experience on their instrument and some experience of improvising in a jazz context. Self Running group - This group is not led by a tutor but is run by the participants. This group would suit individuals with a thorough understanding of the above

The workshop runs during school term time from 10.00am to 12.30pm and cost £8 per session for the waged or £4 for the unwaged.
You can get more information from Pete Lyons on 07950 921067 or petermlyons@googlemail.com, but the best way to find out if it's right for you is turn up and give it a try!
It will be useful for keyboard players to bring an electric keyboard as most rooms we use don't have pianos.
Guitarists & bass players bring an amp.
Vocalist will need a mic and an amp unless you have a very strong voice!
Everyone else bring your instrument (and maybe a music stand).

At the end of each term every workshop culminates in a concert at the Millenium hall.
