The Polish Club closes

We received news this week that The Polish Club has closed this week. We believe that the venue has been sold to developers with a view to building either a trendy new bar or apartments on the site. What a great shame.

Sizzlers Jazz Club
The Quarter
North Church St
Sheffield S1

Sizzlers Jazz Club is pleased to announce the reopening of our jazz club formerly at Trippets Wine Bar. Our new venue has recently been fully refurbished and is situated directly at the rear of Sheffield Cathedral so it is serviced by the Tram and buses on High St.
The Bar is open until 2:00am so you can keep going when everyone else has stopped.
We hope you will come and visit the club and help support music at its best. Hearing it live.

British Jazz Awards

Just to let you know that the BRITISH JAZZ AWARDS are coming to this region!!

They are being held at The Sands Venue in Gainsborough (only 40 minutes from Sheffield) so this is a really great opportunity for all JAZZ fans!! And well worth the short trip.

Widely regarded as the 'Oscars' of British Jazz, the awards help to raise the profile of British Jazz artists and are probably the most prestigious award a jazz artist can receive.

This will be a significant and immensely enjoyable event, with a celebrity presenter and performances by Award Winners.

The venue itself is also a real treat – with a mixture of the best entertainment, first class service and exquisite food.

Sizzlers Jazz Club

Audiences grow.

I'm pleased to report that after five months since Sizzlers reopened in the back room of Trippets most weeks have attracted great audiences and that the vibe seems to be creeping back in.

The Sheffield has closed

The Sheffield public house at Lodge moor has closed down suddenly and the live music scene has lost another venue. I am unsure as to why it has closed but no doubt it will be down to someone somewhere in the corporate governance of things who has been too greedy. When will it end !!!! Jan 07.

Happy Christmas to all you jazzers.

It has been a good year for us down at Sheffield Jazz and Swing. We hosted the first ever music in the Botanical gardens in 2006 which was attended by over 4,000 people in two days. We are to host a bigger and better event there in 2007. The Sizzlers Swing Orchestra has been inundated with enquiries about our next performance. Well just watch this space. See you in the new year......Nails

Sizzlers Swing Orchestra gigs a huge success
Both concerts last week were fantastic said one fan to me who happened to come to both nights. After a few sound problems at the Pomegranate the gigs were a testament to the talent we have here living and working in Sheffield. We hope to post some photos when I get back from Argentina taken by the great Carl Rose of Carl Rose photography. Must dash see you in three weeks. Nails

John Naylor goes to Argentina.
I have wanted to experience South America for many yaers now and this year me and the wife took the plunge and are to vist Buenos Aeries in November 2006. The first week will see us looking into the music scene's various genres and we're looking forward to visiting the Opera House which costs you a quid each to get in. Apparently everyone does the Tango morning, noon & night. See you when I get back. Nails

What's happening at the Sheffield Telegraph .
Since Matt Evans let the newspaper last month the Jazz listings have not really told us what is on. For some reason the listings is putting in some correct contect then putting other stuff from a year ago. Let's hope they correct it soon.
Great Orchestra gig at The Pomegranate.
More than 300 came to see The Sizzlers Swing Orchestra perform a great couple of sets at the Chesterfield Theatra. We enjoyed a support slot from the Henrik Linnemann Trio comprising of Henrik, Piero Tucci & Jamie Taylor on guitar. The Orchestra performed some great arrangements from Simon Stafford & Jon Trier and everyone thought the set to be truly inspiring.

Music is Alive and well in Sheffield in 2006.
Down at the studio things have been busy with all the fantastic music being created and performed in Sheffield this year. There must be something in the water I think! Everyone knows the major label artists which Sheffield is so obviously proud of who have come to prominence in 2006 and I am delighted that so many more people in Sheffield are finding out about how rich & diverse Sheffield's music is, and can be seen and heard in many new venues trying live music. Superb Sheffield artists are many and varied and include Bison, a high energy Ska tinged band.
The sweet vocals of Sally Doherty, songwriter Jody Wildgoose, The fantastic and brilliant Shez Sheridan. The enourmous genius of Steve Edwards, the soulful Sarah Jay Hawley, the astonishing Martin Bragger (Billy Martin Jnr), Chris Walker, Simon Stafford the list is endless and inspiring so dip yer bread I say because hearing it live is and always will be the most fantastic way of hearing music.

The Sheffield Jazz and Swing Festival 2006 is Cancelled.
Despite submitting a well researched and written application to Arts for England for a grant towards the third Sheffield Jazz and Swing Festival the organisers regret to announce that we have been once again unsucessful in our bid for financial support from the arts council. This year we received financial support from Sheffield City Council following a meeting with the city's new director of culture, Dr Ann Goss and were very confident that we were to receive support from the arts council. Naturally the organisers are disappointed the festival has had to be cancelled but they felt strongly about asking all the local musicians to do the festival for performance fees which were less than the musicians union rate.

Sizzlers to reopen

Following the closure of Trippets Wine Bar our Jazz Club has temporarily had to close. Following yet more licencing issues the venue has now been taken over by new owners who are to reopen the bar in September. Following a recent meeting with the new proprietors we are looking forward to opening sometime in September
