July 14th MATT ANDERSON QUARTET As one of the outstanding graduates from Leeds College of Music, Matt has had mentoring support from Jazz Yorkshire. He is an outstanding Saxophone player. One not to be missed! P. B. D. TBC July 21st GARY POTTER/JAMIE TAYLOR TRIO £4/£3.50 "Gary is a heck of a guitar player. He executes his ideas so very well. I wish I could do that in a live situation." Chet Atkins A real treat for lovers of Gypsy jazz and the guitar in general. Gary Potter took the guitar world by storm when featured in the documentary The Django Legacy his approach to playing jazz guitar, both acoustic and amplified, is sufficiently original to give him an identity that is all his own. He is accompanied by the magnificent Jamie Taylor-Guitar and Gary Jackson- Double bass. July 28th EUROPEAN UNION QUARTET The European Union Quartet was formed in 2007 when British bass player Gavin Barras and Dutch saxophonist Iman Spaargaren met whilst studying in Rotterdam. Slovakian drummer Marek Dorcik and German guitarist Ulrich Elbracht complete the line up.The melodies played by saxophone and guitar in unison create a dreamy and romantic atmosphere, which is worked out in tasteful improvisations of both soloists and is accompanied by a strong rhythm section. August 4th FIRST CIRCLE Aidan Shepherd - piano, Pete Gavin - bass, John Arnesen - drums. Plus special guest. These three friends first met at Leeds College of Music, and have continued to develop their playful approach to jazz over the years. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, John Taylor and Dave Milligan, the group plays a range of great originals and standards, with an emphasis on musical conversation! August 11th TESSA SMITH QUARTET The Tessa Smith Quartet focuses on bringing repertoire often unheard, or unperformed by female jazz vocalists, to the listener. This includes contemporary jazz standards that are rarely heard, as well as Tessas original tunes, and standards for which she has written lyrics. John Naylor - Vocals, Guitar, Patrick Walker Guitar, Violin, Steve Brickley Double Bass, Caroline Boaden Drums August 25th THE DAGDA QUARTET Featuring Sheffields own Tom Harrison on Sax. Tom has spent many a Wednesday night at Jazz at the Lescar, has since graduated from Leeds college of Music and is now performing with The DAGDA Quartet.Their repertoire is a fusion of jazz and blues influenced world and folk music. Billy Adamson- Guitar (Gilad Atzmon, Sarah Gillespie) Damian Evans - (Soweto Kinch, Kurt Elling) - Bass and David Lyttle -Drums IRL (Greg Osby, Jonathan Kreissberg). Sept 1st JACQUI WICKS QUARTET Showcasing her long awaited debut album, Vintage Live features eclectic and unique renditions of songs by Tom Waits, Nina Simone, and Nick Drake amongst other timeless classics and oddities Jacqui Wicks - Vocals Kevin James - Piano Keith Jevons - Bass Rich Jevons Guitar. Sept 8th SARAH LITTLEFIELD BAND Mix a great technique with inventive soloing, warm personality and an attractive, varied repertoire - and you have Sara Littlefield. We loved her in Scarborough! Jamil Sheriff - keys Eryl Roberts drums, Jonty Fisher - Bass Sept 15th ROD MASONS ELEMENTS One of the best jazz quartets in the Country. Rod is an exciting and vibrant performer who has thrilled audiences around the UK and Europe. He plays all the saxes and has appeared with John Surman Alan Skidmore the Zapatistas and many other top UK artists.
